touched by lolo Jan

late last night just before i sleep, as i went upstairs i saw the tv with no one watching my brother and si tatay, nakatulugan ang tv. SINE TOTOO was on and their chosen program for that night was Wish Ko Lang. Featured in it was an old guy(lolo Jan) 82 years of age. now this guy earned my utmost respect. i just gotta log this, it certainly touched me in a way i cant describe.

He is from cavite, a former analyst from a shipping company, sadly when he retired he didn't received any pension from his former company so he kept on striving to get a job. typical scenario maybe but to think he is 82 years old he's supposed to be resting at home basking in his well earned RnR but here he is, struggling in the big city to get a job.

his job hunting day would start early in the morning, with just a measly 50pesos as his baon for the whole day you'd wonder how he lasts. he takes a bus from cavite to baclaran, then for his baon to last he'd walk all the way to Ortigas(WTF for an old guy thats torture! well to anyone actually). "exercise din nmn yun" says lolo Jan. it would take him abaout two hours in his walking adventure from baclaran to ortigas, once in Ortigas a new challenge faces him, going from building to building searching for a job, Lolo Jan would ask janitors if they know any higher ranking person or if he could refer him for a job. he wasn't asking for a permanent open post but just a job for a day. some upper guy came out, even if he want to give lolo Jan a job, he cant, there are lots of younger applicants that may do the job better.(the guy thinks the best for the company and i think he doesn't own it so he cant hire lolo Jan even if he want to.). this is the usual scenario in lolo Jan's hunt for a job. he's only rest is when he fills his hungry stomach with one skyflakes and a zesto drink, that would be he's source of stamina for the remainder of the day. its all he can afford for him to make it home with the little baon that he have.

in one of lolo Jan's job hunting expedition, he was so tired he asked to share a seat from a lady in a coffee shop. "pede bang makiupo dito, pagod na ako at masakit na ang binti ko sa paglalakad" says lolo Jan to the lady. the lady in the coffee shop was miss Claire, a lovely young professional. i think lolo Jan and miss Claire had conversational exhange coz its miss Claire who wrote to Wish Ko Lang to help lolo Jan. like me lolo Jan touched miss Claires heart so she wrote to the said tv program.

i'd like to write down the whole thing but you know what would happen next. of course they helped lolo Jan, (i mean why wont they?) they gave him a job, a source of income, had his wife's cataract removed and a scholarship for his daughter. the man deserves it. he's one of those people who wouldn't let life's challenges stop him. while there are some guys who'd rather be drunkard bums at their young age when they can still be more productive they chose no to. but here we see the exact opposite of them, a person of worthy of phrase for what he's doing comes from his love and care for his family, he wouldn't let death take him till he sees his family in good condition. if each one of us have his courage and determination, imagine what country would be like. this is what we lack the most, most peeps after encountering disappointments tend to roll back to their caves and be a worthless bum. life isn't just a one time try out, we must keep on pursuing a dream. try and be a better person both in the eyes of man and the one above. me, i cant say i didn't falter at some point in my life but still I'm trying to make up for my discrepancies.
as long as you can try then try, sooner or later you'll reap the seeds that you plow.
